Personal Biography of Dr. Deborah L Jackson Ed.D.

I was born in Akron, Ohio, and I am the oldest of four children.  My parents, Rev. Charles F and Mary L. Brown were hard-working parents who held their children to a high standard and expected their four children to love God and to contribute to the communities in which they resided.  My husband, Wesley C. Jackson, Sr.  and I met while students at the University of Akron, married, and moved to Connecticut after General Electric Corporation hired him as a Quality Engineer.  Our three sons, Wesley C. Jr. (Erica), Nicholas C.(Stephanie), and David L., were all born in Connecticut and received the beginning of their public education in the Farmington Public Schools.  My oldest son, Wesley Jr., received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Loveland Schools Foundation in 2019.  The Eli Lilly Corp employs him.  My second son Nicholas is a motivational speaker and founded a company called “Speak Love.”  He has done work within our local community sharing the importance of Mental Health Support for children. Nicholas also received the received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Loveland Schools Foundation in 2025. I find this fact to be interesting since some individuals within the school district made life difficult for my sons at time. I thank God for their perseverance in not only graduating but becoming citizens any community would be proud to know.  Festco Corporation employ my youngest son.  He hopes to complete his studies as soon as he pursues his dad’s path of becoming an engineer.  I am the grandmother of five, whose ages range from 17 years to 1 year old.

My family moved to Loveland, Ohio, in 1990 after my husband transferred his position to General Electric in Evendale, Ohio.  My sons have completed their education in Loveland City Schools and are off doing adult things with their families.  Only my youngest son still lives with me in Loveland.  We moved to Loveland after falling in love with the city’s topography.  We love the hills, trees, and even the deer (when they do not eat up the landscaping).  We often marvel at the many kinds of wildlife on our property.  (a big deal for a girl born and raised in the city!) Our backyard borders a wooded area; we wanted that space to raise our children.  For the most part, we have enjoyed our life in Loveland, and when asked what makes life so lovely, I must say it is the kindness of the families in my neighborhood within the Woodford Development.

I am a parent, educator, and professional church musician, and I love what I do.  I also am a Praise Warrior, and I truly love and thrive on the music of the Church. My worship life is an important part of who I am. It regulates me and it grounds me. My faith in God has allowed me to live a blessed life that would not have happened had it not been for God’s Grace.

I graduated from Greater Hartford Community College (Associate of Arts), Central Connecticut State University (Bachelor of Science -Major in Elementary education, Major:  Elementary Ed PreK-8), University of Connecticut (Master of Arts in Education – Curriculum and Instruction), Miami University (Master of Education – Educational Leadership-Principal Credentials), Miami University (Doctor of Educational Leadership)  I am a professional educator and have taught from nursery to graduate school. I teach General Music, Grades K through 5, at Sharonville Elementary School in the Princeton City School District. The most recent being the 2024 Cincinnatus Teacher of the Year Award from Xavier University.  I am a member of the Ohio Education Association Board of Directors at Large and the Vice President of the Southwestern Ohio Education Association (Educators Union).  I also serve as a Board Member  of the H.O.M.E. (Housing Opportunities Made Equal) and the Cincinnati Juneteenth Boards. I am the Minister of Music at the Grace A.M.E. Church in Evanston, Ohio.  As a long-time educator, I believe that the way to make any community great is to ensure that the children receive the best public education possible.  I am a committed educator and love teaching because I love learning!  I believe education is one of the necessary components of making any community great. I thank God for the opportunity to serve people.
