Tony Williams, Sr.: Musician, Visionary, and Legacy Builder

Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Tony Williams, Sr. is the tenth of twelve children, the proud son of parents who migrated from Hawkinsville, Georgia in search of greater opportunity. His musical journey began at an early age, surrounded by the sounds of his father’s quartet group. Listening from the background during rehearsals, Tony developed a deep love for music, particularly string instruments.

Alongside his brother Elijah, he taught himself to play by observing and practicing what he heard. In time, the very group he once watched from the sidelines invited him to play. Known first as a gifted bass player, Tony carried that role into his early years until high school, when he transitioned to guitar. With the added range and expression of the instrument, his creativity flourished, ultimately establishing him as a distinguished guitarist.

Tony’s musical excellence opened the door to a life-changing opportunity when he auditioned for the Bobby Jones Gospel television show in Nashville, Tennessee. He secured the position of lead guitarist in the house band—a role he held for nearly 25 years. During that time, he traveled the world and appeared on what became the number one show on the BET Network, and the longest-running gospel program in cable television history.

Through Bobby Jones Gospel, Tony performed with many of the most influential artists in gospel music. He played extensively for Dr. Bobby Jones and New Life, and The  Nashville Super Choir, contributing to numerous recordings. Among those, he was featured as a lead vocalist on the Grammy-nominated project “Just Churchin’ – God Gave Me a Song.” His musicianship is marked by precision, soul, and a deep sensitivity to the spirit of the music.

In addition to his musical accomplishments, Tony is the owner of The Praise Factory A/V Media, a respected recording and production company based in Cincinnati. While his business provides high-quality audio/visual services and training, his true passion remains rooted in music ministry and artistic excellence. Through his work, he continues to mentor, equip, and inspire the next generation of musicians and creators.

Tony is also widely respected as a man of integrity, wisdom, and quiet leadership within his community. His influence extends beyond the stage and studio, shaping a culture of faith, discipline, and purpose.

At the heart of it all is his devotion to family. He is a loving husband, a proud father of five children (one who rests in the presence of the Lord), and a cherished grandfather of four. Despite a career that has taken him around the world, Tony has remained grounded, present, and committed to those who matter most.

Tony Williams, Sr.’s legacy is one of faith, excellence, and enduring impact. Through his music, his leadership, and his life, he continues to inspire all who encounter his journey.
